I aim to use history to expand my students' perspectives and increase their awareness of and appreciation for other cultures.
As a history teacher, I think my responsibility is to be both an elder and a griot (a storyteller), someone who cultivates students desire to seek knowledge (of a society's history, culture and values) and use this knowledge in ways that can aid the transformation of society (OR: in ways that promote positive social change).
